The NFL itself is a pillar of ludicrous sums of money that are inherited throughout the course of the season due to gameday earnings, merchandise sales, big money investments and major deals through a variety of related industries such as broadcasting or sponsorship branding.
The league has continued to showcase its impressive and near endless listings of star players that represent one of the 32 NFL franchises, all of whom are worth billions of dollars which dictate depending on their market size and wider fanbase.
There are millions of fans who tune into any NFL broadcast at all available periods of time which has allowed these players to earn a vast number of impressive endorsement deals from some of the world’s most decorated brands and companies, which has only continued to escalate in worth as the league has earnt an even greater sum of incoming revenue throughout the past few decades.
The NFL’s business model for player endorsements has greatly fluctuated over the years which has now witnessed several of the league’s most prominent names claim even more earnings into their already ladened bank accounts through the promotion of various products and services related to top brands.
• How do NFL Player Endorsements work?
NFL players are often represented through the NFLPA (NFL Players Association) as a means to utilize several new partnerships and promotions with other brands, with the association also declaring that any of these latest endorsement deals must all comply with their NFLPA Partnership and Endorsement Policy as a means to further enhance and improve the associations’ services and programs.
It is also a matter of great importance that any new sponsorships are placed under the assessment of the NFLPA as the policy also acts to discourage any misrepresentation of relationships with outside entities.
Throughout the course of this assessment, the company in question must follow the individual guidelines that the policy outlines as well as highlight any draw backs that such any endorsement could likely pose which can include selective sponsorship restrictions or usage of related logos.
Once this process has been approved for use, players are then able to continue their partnership with the brand in question and utilize their familiar public fame and image as a means to further promote the brand that they are in partnership with, whilst also claiming a large sum of money through the promotion of the product.
• The biggest NFL Player Endorsements today:
There are now multiple active and retired NFL stars who frequently partake in sponsorship deals with major brands from a variety of industries and sectors, with one such example including a collaboration in a recent commercial with renowned comedian Kevin Hart and former NFL QB Ryan Fitzpatrick during their promotion of DraftKings sportsbook which now provides an extensive list of the latest Super Bowl odds ahead of the big game in Las Vegas.
As a means to further promote their brands and wider extensive listings of products, many companies often reach out to a variety of NFL stars in an effort to pitch their product and negotiate a contract signing which will more than likely allow the NFL star that they value to generate millions of dollars over the course of the next few years.
Currently, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is drawing in the largest amount of revenue through sponsorship deals and endorsements out of any current active player in the league, as he has generated a rough estimate of around $20 million throughout his career on just these deals alone.
These have included several marquee brands such as fashion icons Hugo Boss, Adidas and Oakley, to Insurance companies such as State Farm as well as mobile companies that include T-Mobile and retail giants Walmart, with Mahomes also in collaboration with several other high-end firms which is only expected to increase with future deals in the coming years as the two-time Superbowl winner is arguably only just entering his peak years in the league.
At $13 million each, Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and fellow Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson have both generated an excessive sum of revenue through endorsement endeavors which includes partnerships with the likes of Nike’s Jordan Brand, Bud Light and AT&T.
Other familiar names such as NY Jets QB Aaron Rodgers, Chiefs TE Travis Kelce, Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow and Arizona Cardinals QB Kyler Murray are all ranked in the top echelon of NFL players who continuously earn millions from endorsement deals each season.
