South Devon vs. Australia: Aussie Travelers Will Feel at Home in the UK’s Hidden Gem

This is a guide for any Australian traveller looking to make a trip to the UK in the future (hello to you Down Under). Here’s the thing: Australia and South Devon may be different from each other geographically speaking – especially with the location from one another along with the different landscapes. Yet, there’s something about these two places that might not feel so different from each other. Let’s give Aussie travellers like you a few reasons why South Devon will feel like home.

Affordable Luxury Accommodations

Our locals in South Devon who want to travel to Australia would love to grab the Private Upgrades Australia hotel deals available to them. We are well aware of what some of the best places your country offers – be it in Sydney or Melbourne. Here in South Devon, we’ve got plenty of them including Bovey Castle, Hotel Endsleigh, and many others. Of course, you can lock in the best deals at the right time (including off-peak travel periods).

The best part, we’ve just only scratched the surface when it comes to planning your South Devon vacation. Let’s continue onward with the list, shall we?

The Coastal Scenery is Breathtaking

If there is one commonality that South Devon shares with the UK, it’s the coastal scenery. It’s a thing of beauty and we’d be in awe over the numerous views that both South Devon and the

coasts of Australia have. Plenty of cliffs, sandy beaches, and hidden coves – we like to think that we’ve got our own Great Ocean Road here in the United Kingdom.

We dare say that the scenery alone is worth taking pictures and posting them on social media. Some of your friends back home will think you didn’t travel too far.

We’re A Bit Laid Back Here

We see you, Australia with your laid-back kind of vibe. We’ll even match it too. If you don’t believe us, you should check out Dartmouth and Salcombe as they are both places where you can relax and enjoy the scenery. There are also plenty of seaside cafes where you can enjoy delicious food while taking in the sights and sounds of South Devon.

Australian travellers looking for something that is less hustle and bustle will enjoy South Devon to the fullest. Don’t be surprised that you feel right at home here because of the kind of vibe we exude.

Plenty of Adventurous and Outdoor Activities

Here’s another commonality that South Devon and Australia share: the endless opportunities of adventure and outdoor activities. There’s kayaking, surfing, hiking, and so much more. If you’re more of the hiking type, we would be remiss if we didn’t suggest the Dartmoor National Park – a place with so many trails with coastal views to boot. Let’s not forget that there’s plenty of coastline where you can sail and paddleboard on the water.

Plus, South Devon can get quite warm in the summer months. So you’ll feel right at home here when it’s sunny and 32 degrees.

We Have Unique Wildlife As Well

Koalas, kangaroos, and dingos? Sure they are exclusive to Australia. But that doesn’t mean we don’t have our own unique wildlife encounter opportunities as well. We’ve got seals, rare birds, and wild ponies – especially when you see them in and around the Dartmoor area. Not only that, we have marine wildlife as well (even though they are more accustomed to cooler waters compared to Australia).

It’s Easy To Travel To

Australians looking to travel to South Devon will be thrilled to hear that the region is easily accessible. You’ll be a few hours from London, both by public transport or car. The Elizabeth Line via Heathrow will take you to the GWR to take you to South Devon. If you plan on taking a train, be sure to plan ahead as the earlier trains will take less time to get there than the ones that leave the airport later on in the day.

If a train may not be the best option for you, consider travelling via car (which you can rent). From there, hop on A303 and you’ll be in Dartmouth and the surrounding area in about three to four hours depending on traffic and road conditions.

Final Thoughts

South Devon and Australia may be a bit different in terms of location, the flora, the fauna, and so on. Yet, there are some commonalities that they both share. If you’re an Australian looking for where to go on the next adventure, South Devon just might be the place. You’ll get to experience the coastal life that just might feel like home. It’s laid back, has plenty of activity, and is waiting for your arrival – whenever that could be.
