Onguma – situated on the eastern border of Etosha National Park
Onguma Nature Reserve, located on the Eastern side of Etosha National Park, bordering Fisher’s Pan, is one of Namibia’s best-kept secrets. With five lodges, two campsites and 34 000 hectares of private wilderness to explore, Onguma has an option to suit all tastes and budgets.
Onguma Nature Reserve boasts over 30 different animal species consisting of plains game including kudu, giraffe, eland, oryx, hartebeest, zebra, impala and rare black rhino. There are also predators such as lions, cheetah and leopard -and over 300 species of birds. Onguma is a bird watcher’s paradise, particularly in Namibia’s summer months with thousands of species migrating to the wetlands created by the seasonal rains and ephemeral river systems.
Onguma offers a variety of game activities including visits to the Onkolo photographic hide, guided interpretive bush walks – and even a wildly romantic sleep out on a custom-made “Dream Cruiser”, parked out in the wilderness under the stars.
In addition to the sunset drives on Onguma, guests can enjoy day safaris into Etosha National Park led by one of our knowledgeable guides as the Namutoni entrance gate is only 50 meters from Onguma’s. Etosha is home to four of the “Big Five” (no buffalo) and offers amazing wildlife viewing all year round.
Accommodation-wise, Onguma offers guests a choice of five unique lodges in addition to two well-equipped campsites. The Lodges include The Fort, Tented Camp, Bush Camp, Onguma Etosha Aoba and the much-anticipated Camp Kala which will launch in November 2022.
Onguma The Fort is unique in design as it has a strong North African feel to it. It overlooks the beautiful Etosha Fisher’s Pan, and comprises 11 Bush Suites, a Honeymoon Suite and the expansive Sultan Suite.
Onguma Tented Camp consists of just seven luxurious tents, built in a u-shape for maximum privacy and views over an active waterhole.
Onguma Bush Camp has 18 rooms and is best suited for families as it has a great family and loft rooms. The lodge is fenced, adding peace of mind too weary parents. A great open pool area ensures safe play and lovely lawns provide ample space to run around and expend excess energy.
Onguma Etosha Aoba offers 11 bungalows including three family units and a Honeymoon Bungalow with a romantic outside bath.
Onguma Camp Kala will open in November 2022, as an ultra-exclusive, high-end camp with just four guest suites – so ideal for exclusive use, but also available to book individually. Each suite will have its own private deck with fire pit, wood-fired hot tub and sala with decadent double day bed – all overlooking a busy waterhole. With its conical, mud-plastered central tower resembling a termite mound and the whole camp elevated on wooden stilts, it is set to raise the benchmark to a whole new level – in more ways than one.
