A glorious escape in the vineyards

Located in Lamarque, just a stone’s throw from the river, our domaine overlooks the prettiest plots of land in the area lying between Saint- Julien and Margaux. It is an exceptional terroir where remarkable improvements have been implemented by Vignobles Austruy. His mission was to awaken sleeping beauties and give them a new lease of life, while paying great attention to authenticity and the pursuit of excellence. This family-owned group is headed by Philippe Austruy, a man with a passion for wine, art and heritage. He already owns the prestigious Commanderie de Peyrassol in Côtes de Provence, and also has a presence in Portugal with the superb Quinta da Côrte and a domaine in Tuscany, the Tenuta Casenuove. And what do they have in common? They are all set in beautiful locations steeped in history.

Château Malescasse: a much admired renaissance

After 6 years of work, our 40-hectare vineyard has been fully restored, along with the neo-classical charterhouse, the winery and the windmill, which stands as the symbol of the domaine. The entire domaine has rediscovered its original unity of style, both architecturally and in wine-growing terms. The wines are overseen by the renowned consultant Stéphane Derenoncourt. who has worked his magic to uncover the quintessential merits of the terroir. Today, Château Malescasse ranks amongst the finest crus of the Haut- Médoc, and is regularly highly placed in professional tastings. Since 2020, Château Malescasse is a cru bourgeois exceptionnel.

Our château, a unique feature of the Médoc, will be yours for the duration of your stay. We open our doors to anyone wishing to spend a luxury weekend, or a week to fully immersing themselves in the domaine. The château has been renovated to offer every modern comfort, artfully combining the contemporary with the traditional: the colours are soft and soothing, the views over the park and the vines invite you to sit back and relax. You will feel at home, and our entire team will be working to make your stay something spectacular, luxurious and enlightening at the same time. Whether you are looking to understand more about Malescasse winemaking or simply enticed by long walks through the vines or along the Gironde, the choice is yours.

Our team can offer you two suites and two rooms, all with bathrooms, a large sitting room, a library, a dining room with a superb fireplace, a kitchen and a terrace looking on to the park. On the top floor, the attic rooms have been fitted out to provide a play space for the children and a place for their parents to read and relax.

A stay at the château also provides an opportunity to expose you to the mys- teries of winemaking. Slip through the door of our winery and there, within its velvety black walls lined with vats, we will help you understand how our wines are produced and aged. Because a glass of wine is every bit as useful as a long lecture, you can then move along to our modern tasting area. You can continue your initiation with wines from all our domaines, following a prestigious wine trail from Tuscany to Portugal, via Provence and Bordeaux.

A concierge service for your personal tailored visit

Ideally situated between the Gironde and the vineyards of Haut-Médoc, not far from the prestigious appellations of Margaux or Saint-Julien, Château Malescasse is an ideal base for numerous activities. Our team can provide you with bikes and will be happy to advise you on the prettiest routes.
Depending on what you want, we can also organise:

– a walk along the Gironde to let you discover the region and the city from an unusual angle;

Château Malescasse for hire all year round

Built in 1824, the château offers fine reception rooms that have been entirely renovated and decorated in a contemporary style. The dining room is suitable for business dinners, and the meeting room beneath the majestic wood-framed roof of the château is ideal for professional discussions.
The sitting room has a friendly feel and offers a comfortable place to enjoy those quieter, more relaxed moments.

Rate: From 3000 euros for 2 nights, including:

– 2 suites and 2 rooms, all with private bathrooms, sitting room, library, dining room, kitchen, a terrace giving on to the park, and attic rooms designed to provide recreational space.

– Visit of the winery and the vineyard.
– Tasting of a selection of Vignobles Austruy wines.

Discover the domaine

Guided tour of the domaine followed by a tasting, beginning with the historic part of the château. Our visitors are then taken to the vineyard to discuss the work in progress, where we will go into the details of the vinification and aging methods used at Malescasse in our winery. The tour ends with a tasting of 2 or 4 wines in the reception area created by the owner, Marie-Amélie Austruy, in 2016.

Wine workshops

For your entertainment, and to provide a unique experience, we offer various wine-related workshops such as:

– “An introduction to wine tasting”. This workshop gives our visitors the oppor- tunity to discover the wines of Malescasse and to learn the basics of tasting (appearance, aroma, taste). Tasting of 3 wines.

– “The Epicurean”. A bit of fun and a bit of self-indulgence, where our visitors can taste the wines of Malescasse in combination with local specialities, plus a selection of the other wines of Vignobles Austruy (Provence, Douro, Tuscany), to learn the basic principles of food and wine pairing.

– “Become a cellar master”. An introduction to the art of blending, which creates the mystery and the unique character of the wines of Bordeaux. In this workshop the apprentice cellar masters will taste the different varieties grown on the property and can then create their own wine! They will have a personalised bottle to take home with them as a souvenir of this experience.

For lovers of French gastronomy

Lunch on the grass: A rural interlude in the park of the château, to savour our wine and a selection of foods in our gourmet hamper. 35€/pers

Culinary workshop: We invite our guests to try their hand in the kitchen in the company of a visiting chef, and to prepare a meal worthy of a true chef. This culinary workshop will be followed by a meal where the various courses will be matched with our wines .

Within the majestic setting of the Château Malescasse, our unique reception areas will provide the opportunity for you to organise all your events and turn them into a special occasion. Seminars, receptions, cocktail parties, dinners … Château Malescasse provides an elegant answer to all your needs.

The Vatting Room

Our winery, with its wonderful array of vats in stainless steel, wood and concrete, was totally renovated in 2014, in a contemporary style, giving it an air of refi- ned elegance. With an area of 700 m2 , the vatting room can accommodate up to 100 persons seated (banquet, conference) or up to 200 persons for cocktails.

The Winetasting Area

With an area of 125 m2, our superb boutique area can offer different formats: Cocktails: 100 persons – Conferences: 70 persons – Banqueting: 65 persons.

The Courtyard

With space for 400 persons for cocktails, the main courtyard is at the heart of our vineyard, and opens on to a monumental sculpture by Bernar Venet.

The Park

Behind the château, our enclosed, tree-shaded park welcomes any kind of event.
