Eleiko Öppen Collars – awarded the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021
The Red Dot distinction is recognized internationally as one of the most sought-after seals of quality for product design excellence.
“We are honored that Eleiko, our design team, and the Öppen Collars were recognized by the Red Dot Jury,” said Erik Blomberg, CEO of Eleiko. “The Öppen Collars are truly designed with the lifter in mind, both in terms of design and functionality. We carefully considered the entire training session, from finding and storing collars to application and the lift itself to upgrade every aspect of the user experience, furthering Eleiko’s position as a leading provider of innovative strength products.”
Eleiko Öppen Collars – Safer lifts in a snap
With its innovative patent-pending design, Eleiko Öppen Collars secure barbell weights quickly, improving lifting performance while encouraging safety. Simply place each collar next to the weights and press the lever down to lock them into place. The open design is accessible, easy to use and promotes faster weight changes.
With smart features such as integrated magnets, one hand operation and exceptional clamping force, the Öppen Collars deliver a better lifting experience. The aluminium casing, NBR rubber and internal components are fully recyclable, making the Öppen Collars a conscious choice that minimizes environmental impact.
“An important aspect of Eleiko’s product development process is to identify the problems lifters face today and focus on how we can turn them into solutions that users can count on. The Öppen Collars has been very well received by our customers, and the Red Dot Award is a true testament to Eleiko’s lifter-first design philosophy and commitment to quality,” says Björn Welde, product development manager at Eleiko and designer behind the Öppen Collars.
Red Dot CEO Professor Dr.Peter Zec on the Laureates
“The winners of the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2021 were particularly impressive this year. The design of their products is excellent, in terms of both the aesthetic and the functionality. It’s not easy to prevail in such a strong field of competitors and to win over our jury. Consequently, I want to congratulate the laureates very sincerely on their success,” said Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of Red Dot.
Detailed evaluation of the products entered
The Red Dot Award: Product Design dates back as far as 1955 and recognises the best products for a given year. The roughly 50 jurors were once again true to the motto “In search of good design and innovation” in the 2021 competition. The international panel of experts comprises specialists from a wide variety of sectors. They scrutinised the products entered in the competition in a process that spanned several days and were guided by assessment criteria such as the product’s formal quality, ergonomics and longevity.
