Devour the delights of Revery Bar’s new afternoon tea
Tea, cake and cocktails – what more could one desire?
Afternoon tea, a quintessentially British tradition that transcends time, has found a new champion in the Revery Bar. I had the pleasure of experiencing their reimagined “Tea, Cake and Cocktails” afternoon tea, which boldly presents a modern and playful twist on tradition, and is a true testament to the culinary creativity of Revery’s award-winning pastry chefs.
A destination in its own right, Revery Bar has quickly become one of Mayfair’s most exciting venues. Deservingly known for its luxurious ambience and impeccable service, it occupies a coveted yet cosy spot within the London Hilton on Park Lane. The decor is a harmonious blend of contemporary chic and classic opulence, featuring plush seating, tasteful lighting, and a colour palette that exudes sophistication. Whether you’re seated at the bar or at a more intimate table, the ambience is perfect for both relaxed conversations and celebratory occasions.
From the moment we were invited in by the Hilton’s welcoming doorman, to the moment we were waved goodbye, the afternoon tea experience is infused with contemporary flair and expertise. Service remains discrete yet attentive, personable yet professional and impeccably prompt. The team’s knowledge about the afternoon tea menu was unparalleled, making helpful recommendations and suggestions of unique tea pairings throughout the service without hesitation. They also took the time to explain each course to us when placed on the table, taking us on a journey of flavour and finesse.
Something truly unique about this afternoon tea is the mixology experience. Our expert cocktail maker joined us tableside for an interactive and personalised sampling of five bespoke cocktails and two mocktails, all meticulously crafted in-house and each infused with a different type of tea from the afternoon tea menu. Following the ‘cocktail tasting’, we were invited to choose our favourites to enjoy alongside our food. We chose the Hibiscus Kiss (a blend of patron, hibiscus and pistachio tea beer cordial) and the Pistachio Bliss (a blend of pistachio liqueur, amaretto, and cream) – both of which went down far too easily.
Onto the main feature – the food and tea. Serving the food in several ‘courses’ allowed for the interactive nature of the experience to remain, and also created an air of excitement about what was to come. The tea began with an array of canapés, such as Beetroot cheesecake and a Black truffle macaroon with chicken liver pâté, before being followed by the delicious “Finger Feast” course. We were invited to step away from traditional finger sandwiches and indulge in some reimagined savoury delights. The deconstructed classic chicken caesar, beet pearl and blue pea flower was a true feat of imagination, mixed with some complementary flavour pairings. The scones and sweet course were presented in unison, with beautifully warm and delicate scones, alongside three pastries, to hit that sweet spot. The carrot cheesecake had a citrus zest infused throughout and the triple chocolate sandwich was as rich as it was indulgent. Revery Bar also caters without hesitation to dietary requirements, and their vegan afternoon tea delivers both creativity and taste.
No afternoon tea is complete without the tea itself, and Revery takes its tea selection very seriously. Partnering with London Tea Exchange, the team have carefully curated a range of 10 premium and rare teas sourced from different countries, to complement the food offerings seamlessly. From the tantalising blend of pistachio and truffle to the soothing Egyptian chamomile, there is something for everyone, ensuring an unparalleled tea-tasting experience. Before leaving, we were presented with a selection of Revery’s pic ‘n’ mix, perfect for anyone with a penchant for sweet treats, and a special touch to take with us.
In a city renowned for its afternoon tea offerings, Revery Bar’s “Tea, Cakes & Cocktails” hits the mark on being more than just an afternoon tea. Each element of the menu is crafted to surprise and delight, making it an unforgettable experience for traditionalists and modern tea aficionados alike. Whether you desire an afternoon of luxury with friends or an experience to mark a special occasion, Revery promises pure indulgence in every sense of the word.
Revery’s “Tea, Cakes & Cocktails” is available to book on Thursdays–Sundays from 12 pm–6 pm and costs £65 per person.
