Creating an oasis: how to take your bathroom to the next level

It was not even a century ago that bathrooms began to be built inside the home, so it is unsurprising that many of them remain rooms dedicated purely to functionality. However, with recent years seeing a boom in the beauty industry and the Covid-19 pandemic charging us to conduct salon treatments in our own homes, bathrooms are no longer only about hygiene. In fact, for many, these private spaces became a much-needed space for peace and relaxation during the long lockdowns in 2020 and 2021. Discover how to take your bathroom to the next level and transform it into the ultimate luxury oasis. Soon it will be your favourite room in the house!

Introduce focus features

Especially if you have a large space, the best way to make your bathroom look more luxurious is to introduce focus features. Anything functional can be transformed into a statement piece by paying attention to the small details – for example, swapping an in-built bath for a free-standing bathtub in an old-fashioned design will dramatically change the tone of the room. A popular option in recent months is to upgrade often unattractive shower cubicles into shower enclosures such as wet rooms which have cleaner, thinner lines and are overall more elegant in style.

Add a seating area

Depending on the size of your bathroom there are a variety of seating options that will work to elevate your space. The most simple way to incorporate seating is to have a small stool, either in the corner of your shower enclosure or beside your bathtub. For a truly opulent touch, add a dressing table complete with a vanity sink, a special mirror, and designer lighting – this area will look especially eye-catching if you use bold black or white marble. Large bathrooms could feature a bench or sofa area by the window to make the most of the light in the early morning or late evenings.

Create a spa atmosphere

Who doesn’t want to have a spa experience in the comfort of their own home? Those with the budget can go all out to create a spa-like atmosphere with the features described above and the addition of dimmable lights and designer lighting in the shower area and around the mirrors. On a more straightforward level, you can make simple adjustments such as decluttering the room and adding small decorative touches such as fresh flowers and plants and candles.

Go bold with decoration

While you make think that neutral shades are better for creating a restful and clean feeling, do not be afraid to go bold with decoration to make your bathroom really stand out above the crowd. Monochrome is an ever-popular colour scheme for bathrooms, with black marble and white tiles creating an elegant juxtaposition. On the other end of the spectrum, you could incorporate a feature wall in bold wallpaper, or just have pretty pops of colour in your towels. A recent décor trend is to use thin copper-coloured taps and pipes to offset the rustic warmth of Scandi themes and give a modern industrial vibe.
