ADDO Gallery lands ‘Best New Exhibitor’ at Red Dot Miami

African art collective is honoured for its unique gallery of detailed works made with recycled sawdust.

The renowned mixed media artist from Ghana, Alfred Addo, has been presented with one of the most prestigious awards by Red Dot Miami for his gallery featuring a collection of art developed alongside his three younger brothers.

The “Best New Exhibitor” award was presented by Redwood Art Group’s Marketing Managing Director, Linda Mariano, for the collective works featured in Addo Gallery curated by lead artist Alfred Addo. This adds to Addo’s growing list of award-winning accomplishments, including “Best of Show” at the Naples Fine Art Show in Florida; “Award of Excellence” at the Estero Fine Art Show in Fort Myers, Florida and “Award of Excellence” at the Boca Raton Fine Art Show in Florida. Representing the nation of Ghana, among the hand-picked talent from Africa at this year’s Red Dot Miami, Alfred Addo presented works created by his famed signature technique of sawdust and recycled plastics, together with a number of ethnic-themed and contemporary paintings in acrylic and resin and sawdust by his brothers. This is the first time Addo Gallery has exhibited its collection of works by the family of brothers during Miami Art Week.

“It was an honour to have been awarded Best New Exhibitor by Redwood Art Group at this year’s Red Dot Miami,” says Alfred Addo. “This year was our first time exhibiting the gallery’s series of work by all four brothers during Miami Art Week, and the diversity of our collection really resonated with attendees. Trends within the art world are changing every year, so it’s important that we adapt our traditional style of ethnicity to include some contemporary-themed works to enhance a global appeal. The story behind our collection will always originate from our roots in Africa, and our style of work developed over the generations of family history has helped us garner a new legion of collectors.”
