Les Jardins de Villa Maroc, is a family business currently run by Mounia Ezzaher, the daughter of its founders. Initially a personal endeavour to expand their olive groves, the gardens were purchased in 2000 with a family residence that was redesigned into a guest house in 2009. Since then and by popular demand from Villa Maroc’s repeat guests, the family has transformed Les Jardins into a unique hotel retreat, embracing the peaceful beauty of the Essaouira landscape. In 2012, the addition of a pool and restaurant allowed the property to offer day passes, welcoming guests to experience its enhanced amenities. Very much a family affair, much of the design, styling and decor have been created by Cornelia Hendry, with objects and antiques carefully sourced over time from throughout Morocco.

Conceptual design and sustainability

Les Jardins de Villa Maroc offers an exclusive range of accommodations, decorated in a modern Moroccan style, with 3 suites and 11 unique domes, each testament to sustainable architecture and the beauty of local craftsmanship. Photographs by Thor Arne Hauer, a Norwegian photographer, who has called Essaouira home for over 30 years, adorn the walls of each of the domes, providing visual narratives complimenting unique design objects, adding a layer of authentic charm to the interiors. Sustainability is a core value further reflected in the eco-friendly practices that minimally impact the luxury guest experience, offering a true sense of place and one of a newly-found, secluded paradise.
