Welcome to the Saronic Voyage with Explore Yachting! With calm seas and warm sunny weather, it’s smooth sailing in one of the most beautiful regions in the world. Explore the Saronic Gulf on a private yacht, island-hopping from one magical place to the other, while soaking up the rich history and culture of Greece. Join us below for a snapshot of the journey with our handpicked favourite islands and highlights. Imagine… setting sail into a blissful summer holiday.

The Saronic Voyage begins in Athens, the rich cultural capital of Greece. After visiting the mighty Acropolis and wandering the ancient city, head to the marina and board your luxury yacht to set sail in the warm afternoon sun. You’ll get to know your crew and yacht while sipping cool welcome drinks and nibbling on complimentary refreshments. The first stop is Aegina, less than an hour from Athens, a leisurely journey with an anchor drop to swim, snorkel, and paddleboard in the open sea before arriving at the island’s bustling waterfront. The picturesque port of Aegina boasts sophisticated Neoclassical architecture and charming restaurants, tavernas, and bars. With your evening taken care of by our knowledgeable crew, including reservations at sought-after spots, you can fully relax while dressing for an unforgettable evening out. Now, imagine each night returning onboard and being lulled to sleep by the gently rolling water, waking to the smell of fresh coffee and a delicious, locally sourced breakfast.

For those keen on exploring, each day and each island offers something new. On Aegina, the ruins of the ancient temple of Aphaia are found on the eastern side and inland is the ghost village of Paleohora, which was historically pillaged by the infamous pirate, Barbarossa. After wandering the islands and taking your fill of the sights and local culture, you’ll return to your yacht and venture on, dropping anchor along the way for leisurely lunches, beautiful bays and plenty of swim stops in the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean. The evenings will be spent indulging in Greek culinary feasts, sampling delicious and exotic drinks and experiencing the nightlife of the unique islands.

The lesser-known Agistri, a tiny Greek gem, is somewhere you can hire a scooter, a fun way to discover the rugged coastline in under a day! Marvel at the picturesque white churches dotting the island and secluded rocky beaches that are accessed by steps or ladders descending into the sea. To top it all off, the deserted southern pine forests and fruit groves can now be explored on horseback and Asponisos Horse Riding caters to all ages.

In tranquil Epidaurus, you will uncover the excellently preserved Amphitheatre, one of the most popular archaeological sites in Greece. The Saronic Islands have a rich cultural history and are known for the friendly local welcome by the residents so happily immerse yourself in the Greek Festival, hosted by the ancient theatre in the summer months. Here, experience a colourful medley of dramatic performances, musical concerts and fascinating lectures.

For a livelier experience, Poros, in the heart of the Saronic Gulf, is your island and our next destination. Poros Town throngs with fun and vibrant clubs, shops, cafes, restaurants, and tavernas, all easily accessible by scooter. Fancy stopping at the wild lemon forest before heading to the many and diverse beautiful beaches? Romantic Love Bay is perfect for couples, Vayionia is calm and secluded, while Askeli abounds with sun lounges, umbrellas and bars. In the evening, we recommend continuing your culinary experience by sampling the mouth-watering Greek Feta Saganiki in Greek Honey.

The islands of the Saronic are short sails away so your journeys can be as relaxed as you choose, opt for extra swim stops or early port arrivals, as you desire. But you won’t want to miss Hydra, the most distinctive of the Saronic Islands, owing to its no-car policy and proliferation of donkeys as the primary means of transport. As you bask in the unique atmosphere of the island, transport yourself back in time by wandering the winding lanes, historical museums, churches and stone mansions. Perfect for families, this charming island’s quiet streets, shallow pebbled waters and simple, fresh food are a great holiday experience. Sweet, almondy Amygdalota is the local specialty, delighting children and adults alike.

The last stop on your journey, Spetses is arguably the most popular of the Saronic Islands, being wonderfully pretty and highly accessible. Bougainvillaea, jasmine and hibiscus drench white-walled buildings in colour and imposing mansions dominate the waterfront. For all you history lovers, every year in September the re-enactment of the Naval Battle of Spetses is an unmissable sight, reflecting Greece’s rich and fierce history and independence. Now an elegant cosmopolitan town, you will be pleasantly surprised to find Spetses’ food, entertainment and beaches compete with the best in the world.

Here on Spetses, close off your unforgettable holiday by snorkelling in the enchanting sea caves, visiting the outdoor cinema and partaking in excellent fresh seafood dishes before a last night sleeping on the sea under the stars. Enjoy a relaxing breakfast and a refreshing morning swim at your skipper’s favourite spot as you enjoy a smooth sail back to Athens.
