Neville Hair and Beauty – Bespoke colour, cuts and styling
The new season is upon us, and I think it’s time to say goodbye to my drab and dull hair and book a hair revamp, courtesy of Neville Hair and Beauty. I think spring is the perfect excuse to have a new, refreshed hair look, something to honour the new season.
Neville Hair and Beauty is a five-floor salon based in Belgravia and are open seven days a week and have an extensive list of awards, including the best colourist, best hairdressers in London and best highly recommended Neville hairbrush. When researching where to have my hair done, I can’t just go anywhere. Good hair can improve your mental health; if you have bad hair, you have a bad day. There were so many great reviews online, and when I read, ‘We pride ourselves on the fact that our services are customer-led, not trend-led, I was sold’. I want a stylist to advise me on the condition of my hair and, most importantly, a stylist who listens. Neville’s hair and beauty did just that.
Recently, I feel like whatever I do with my hair, it just looks limp and lifeless. We all know good hair = confidence, so I wanted to inject that confidence and refresh my style. I haven’t had a ‘good hair day’ in so long I forgot what it feels like. I trusted the fabulous Neville Hair and Beauty team to give me that good hair day I’d been missing, and of course, they understood the assignment.
Firstly, I was greeted by the warm staff whilst they took my coat and ordered me a gorgeous oat hazelnut latte from ‘the coffee community’; whilst I got myself comfortable. Susanna came over and gave me the most in-depth hair consultation, unlike anything I’d had before. This process was so thorough, and I knew I would be in capable hands. I took her expert advice, and we decided what treatment and colour to choose. We went for a dark brown root dye and blended it into my previous balayage. We also toned down the old blonde by darkening it so I was brunette again, and I love it. I feel like me again; the shade of brown she chose for my roots and around my face compliments my skin tone and has made me feel much more confident. The blonde is now a darker shade of brown which adds great depth and contrast, especially when I wear it in a curly style.
After the initial full head of highlights, I got treated to a lovely Fusio hair mask for dry hair, giving my hair the hydration, it needed whilst giving it a great shine. I also enjoyed a relaxing head massage which was a bonus!
I then went upstairs to Kash to the blow-dry bar, who was in charge of my cut and blow, and again, I had an in-depth consultation about how I wanted it styled. I explained that I would love some movement in my style and to take it a little shorter and whatever he thought I needed. I was so happy with how the cut turned out; I explained how I curly-blow-dry my hair most of the time, so he added layers which enhanced my everyday hair look, which was super important for me. Then he gave me a blow-dry, and when I left, I felt like I was part of a hair advert, my hair bounced in the wind, and the volume he achieved using the Mark Hill products, gave me that sleek but effortless look.
Kash also shared some hair top tips; I always love to optimise my time sitting in that chair, and anything that will help me achieve healthier hair, I’m asking the professional!
Don’t use elastic hair bands if you can help it; it can cause breakage of the hair, and alternatively, opt for hair scrunchies as the fabric can help protect your hair more.
Invest in your shampoo and use one made specifically for your hair type, always ask your therapist, and they can advise you.
Use hair treatments at least twice per month; that’ll ensure you have enough moisture in your hair and can help to prevent heat damage plus self-care is the way forward!
I also got to catch up with the Owner of Neville’s Hair and Beauty, Elena Lavagni:
What do you think makes your salon different from the competitors?
We are unique; we do not look at other salons; we are only interested in our clients and are not competing with anyone. Neville is just Neville, unique and effective and able to pre-empt all our client’s desires.
What is your interview process – how do you ensure all of your employees are to a standard that represents Neville Hair and Beauty?
We tend to train our own team members; we have a unique style that only we can teach.
What’s one random piece of advice based on any subject that you could share with us?
The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.” -Vidal Sassoon
Since having my hair done, just in time for the nice weather, I have felt so much more confident, and it’s increased my happiness within myself. Not only is hair an investment in your well-being, but it’s great for your mental health!
