The story goes that The Signature Collection is the holiday home of the Sultans and Sultanas when they want to take a little break from the Utheemu Palace on the neighbouring island not too far away from Hideaway.

The ulta-luxurious villas offer sophisticated travellers a unique sense of exclusivity and indulgence. All the villas have been designed with Middle Eastern influences and finishing touches, with an enhanced signature architectural style inspired by 5-star villa living combined with ‘barefoot luxury’.

The Food and Drinks

The resort offers the most incredible dining options and would absolutely suggest the White Platinum All-Inclusive Plan which means the majority of your meals and excursions are provided. This includes Taittinger Brut Champagne, unlimited premium alcoholic beverages, alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails, fresh juices and dining in the majority of restaurants.

Samsara Asian Fusion

Samsara Asian Fusion offers serene surroundings coupled with an exquisite fusion of Thai, Indian and Japanese influences. It boasts a romantic location of an open-air terrace perched on stilts above the impossibly blue lagoon; outstanding fine dining and a teppanyaki table that will excite the taste buds. Samsara is an incredible experience that you’ll visit multiple times (we did), the attentive staff combined with the outstanding food pushed this spot to our number one during the stay.

Matheefaru Main Restaurant

This sand-floored oceanfront restaurant offers a warm welcome to food lovers with its expansive and daily changing buffet. A dining highlight at Matheefaru – which means coral reef in the local language – is the team of talented chefs who offer live cooking for the perfectly seasoned dish made the way you like best. The restaurant has different themes each night and the selection for breakfast is spot on. After trying uttapam (a type of thick dosa from South India) with chives and homemade sauces, along with morning, afternoon and evening Mango Lassi, it’s safe to say these will be my holiday go-tos for a long time.

Sunset Pool Café

Take in the sublime panoramas from the Sunset Pool Café whilst sampling flavour-infused dishes with Asian and European influences. Open for lunch and dinner, poolside dining can be enjoyed at any time of day, and always with stunning views of the island. From Seabass Carpaccio to Braised Octopus in red wine, the perfect pit stop for a swim then seafood. This is an ideal spot if you stay in the deluxe water villa as it’s just a five minute walk or a two minute cycle.

Meeru Bar & Grill

For relaxed dining by the pool, Meeru Bar and Grill is the perfect place to unwind after a day in paradise. Authentic pizzas, handcrafted and cooked in a wood-fired oven, succulent cuts of meat cooked to perfection on the Lava Stone Grill and lobsters straight from the water to the grill are just a few of the delectable treats on the international menu. Enjoy dinner on the deck outside whilst spotting stingrays, baby sharks and fish swimming in the ocean below.

Although the food is incredible and the wine and champagne options are top-notch, I would recommend bringing in a Mixologist to train the team up on cocktail making as that’s the one thing that’s missing to give this resort the full experience.

The Activities

Venture out to the heavenly hideaway spa for a journey through the senses with traditional ayurvedic treatments. For those wishing for a livelier break, you can make the most of the myriad of water sports on offer, head off on a sandbank picnic and sunset dolphin cruise, swim in the stunning main pool or participate in the many other activities on offer each day.

You’ll have a full timetable of activities each day and can pick and choose as they run morning, middle and night.

I’d highly recommend the manta ray and shark feeding (every night at 5 pm by Matheefaru restaurant ) which is completely free and just incredible to watch, as they are so close. The abundance of fish life around this Maldives resort is second to none, making it a prime location for snorkelling and scuba diving.

You might think being on a private island could get boring, but I’m pleased to share that it’s quite the opposite at The Hideaway. From guided snorkelling, jet ski experiences, kayaking, a floating aqua park, and even paddleboarding available, if you prefer to keep moving, you’ve got many options.

Parked outside the villa is your very own bike, you can cycle everywhere (work up an appetite pre-dinner), or swing by the gym if you fancy breaking an extra sweat. Wellbeing is a core part of the Hideaway experience, with the divine Hideaway Spa offering a range of treatments for rejuvenation and relaxation.

With such an array of activities, I’d recommend taking everything a day or two at a time, you are in one of the most beautiful places in the world afterall.

The Service

The resort’s uncompromising attentiveness to its guests,via their own personal butler is mindblowing. Make sure you utilise your buter as they know the resort like the back of their hand and can advise on how to get the maximum value whilst in the Maldives for the whole family. They disclose the best snorkelling spots, customised excursions and are available 24/7 for assistance. Please note, that the butlers really want to be utilised, our butler was saying he likes to be kept busy and that we shouldn’t hesitate to reach out to him regarding anything.
