The Cotswolds is steeped in history and as such the towns and villages hold untold stories and a myriad of original architecture, quaint boutiques, farm shops, countryside walks and so much more, it’s such a fascinating part of the UK.

We were invited to spend the weekend at one of the Karma Groups hotels in the Cotswolds, Salford Hall in the Vale of Evesham, and boy did it pack a punch on the relaxations scale. It is an impressive, pretty building with heaps of ‘curb appeal’, stunning in fact, and part of the building dates back 700 years. The hotel is full of nooks and crannies, winding staircases, creaky floorboards and authentic artwork, creating that old castle-style atmosphere, you really feel the presence of a bygone era.  The hotel once belonged to King Henry VIII and retains its Tudor charm. Elegant and stylish it’s got oodles of luxe finishes that you would expect from a Karma Group hotel. That said, the hotel although steeped in history has been restored to a high standard ensuring your complete comfort, the rooms and suites have been sympathetically updated. Tradition definitely meets the 21 st century in the very heart of the Cotswolds.

We arrived with our four-legged friend, a well behave cockapoo, just in time for Sunday lunch which we took in the conservatory, an area where dogs are most welcome. Now when I say dogs are welcome, he was treated to a huge bowl of Sunday lunch, which (excuse the pun) he ‘woolfed’ down! We began with a ham hock terrine that was delicious, followed by rare roast beef with all of the trimmings, the Yorkshire pudding was truly impressive. We finished with ice cream as we were quite full. To wash this down we decided on a bottle of Prosecco, it was a leisurely relaxed experience, a perfect Sunday afternoon and we worked off a few calories with a walk in the surrounding countryside.

After our walk we both enjoyed a great treatment in the hotel spa, we had a facial and reflexology with Emma and a highly qualified and talented therapist, and we both discovered that laidback vibe we so needed within minutes in her beautiful room, full of lovely aromas and gentle music.

We had been so busy we hadn’t had time to check in, we were eventually shown to our dog-friendly room which featured a four-poster bed and plenty of space for all three of us, and finally began to relax into the weekend. A dog bowl and bed were also supplied, and he slept soundly on the bed all night. Our bed was equally as comfy, we slept like babies, and the countryside is such a peaceful and healing place to be. The suite included all of the usual facilities, tea and coffee making, a mini-fridge, wifi, gowns, a hairdryer, and great quality lotions and potions.

That evening we didn’t feel we could manage a whole meal so decided to dine in the hotel bar, a typically English super-relaxed, down-to-earth pub setting, we ordered a variety of starters and shared them, we had a tasty charcuterie platter, some fried halloumi and some spicy chicken wings, delicious and perfect. We had a little look around the hotel and discovered a games room, a gym, a library and a marquee used for events such as weddings. The hotel grounds were lovely, well-maintained, and pretty.

The following morning after a gym session and a brief dog walk we took breakfast in the conservatory again, we helped ourselves to a continental breakfast that included a huge selection of pastries, bread, cereals, yoghurts, fruit, orange juice and coffee. The perfect way to begin a busy day of business.

In conclusion, Salford Hall offers delicious food, and scenic surroundings in equal measure, as well as great service and most importantly time, to regenerate your batteries.
