Chotto Matte – Japanese-Peruvian cuisine in an electric atmosphere
From the moment we arrived at the new branch of Chotto Matte, the Japanese Peruvian fusion restaurant, we noticed the styling and vibe of this recently opened Marylebone restaurant. Set in a stylish and contemporary architectural space, we were excited to experience the innovative Nikkei cuisine and the cocktails of course!
Once we were seated, we were greeted by a wonderful waitress who took excellent care of us throughout the meal. The flowing cocktails and beautiful plates of food passing to the other diners made us want to try everything. She started by asking if we were happy for her to recommend and choose some dishes for us, so we were in for a surprise and very excited to see what would be coming to our table.
We looked through the cocktail menu and chose a Flor De Manzana cocktail which has a tropical and zesty flavour, perfect for a summer vibe. We also chose a ‘Kakigori’ frozen cocktail, with a strong and fruity flavour containing Haku vodka, lychee, and crispy raspberry, we decided both were delicious.
The first dish to the table was a lovely portion of Padron peppers. These were ideal to start the meal as the Spanish sweet peppers are marinated in miso, perfectly seasoned with so much flavour and cooked to perfection! We were excited to see what our main plates would be like after the first dish was so delicious.
We were blown away by the Argentinian Red Prawn Truffles, which are filled with truffled shitake mushrooms and spring onion. The flavours just blossomed in our mouths, one of the best things we’ve ever eaten. I highly recommend that everyone should try this dish!
Two more beautiful dishes arrived, the Kingfish Nikkei Sashimi which was very light but packed with flavour. This created a perfect balance to the second dish of Black Cod Aji Miso. Chotto Matte triumphed again, another plate that melted in our mouths, was perfectly cooked, and tender and the miso chilli marinade was just outstanding.
Our last dish was a Dragon Roll Sushi accompanied by a fire gun. With everything so wonderful so far this was an exciting end to our main course. We had of course to make room for dessert and I would definitely recommend the two different dishes we had to share, that way you both get a taste of heaven.
We had Coconut Sakura which is a coconut sorbet encircled in a coconut biscuit. The waitress came with a steel grinder for the amarena cherry salsa to add to the plate as it was presented. So stylish and wonderful to watch. With a spoonful of crunchy biscuit, then the sorbet to the amarena cherry salsa it was tastebud heaven.
Our second choice was a magical chocolate ball that I defy anyone to resist. The warm white sesame sauce was poured onto the chocolate ball and as it melts it reveals black sesame ice cream sitting on a treacle cake. Amazing flavours and so clever.
With the food being so delicious, and the outstanding service where we were looked after the whole evening, we would recommend Chotto Matte. If you are looking for an experience of excellent food and outstanding service this is the place to be. We’ll definitely be back.
